Wave makers
is an interdisciplinary project for youth from Denmark and Belgium, gathering expertise from ocean literacy, arts, and activism, funded by Erasmus+ youth in action (KA1). The project engages with the Danish Limfjord's biodiversity crisis by developing knowledge on ocean health, promoting responsible and creative actions to heal and protect the ocean, and arts-based advocacy.
The project focuses on 4 key objectives: (1) develop ocean literacy, (2) being together, (3) bonding across borders, (4) doing actions. We develop ocean literacy by understanding ecological interconnectedness, foster a sense of togetherness with the sea to combat ecoanxiety, establish relations across country borders and disciplines, and undertake concrete actions through art and hands-on contributions to the ocean. Participants engage in immersive and shared learning experiences near the Limfjord, emphasising sensory engagement and mental health awareness. The initiative aims to create impactful international relationships, addressing the biodiversity crisis by using diverse backgrounds in youth work, arts, and education to make tangible contributions to the sea and raise awareness about its importance.
As part of the project, we conduct a study on the educational process, namely how the interdisciplinary program influences the participants' learning.
The project is coordinated by Nyskaben (DK) in collaboration with Vrije Universiteit Brussel (BE), UMMK (DK), and EMSEA (BE). The project is hosted by Marieke Breyne, Elvira Crois, Bob Lundgreen, Dominika Wojcieszek, Zunaira Malik, Free De Backer, Marie Louise Klitgaard Nielsen, and Evy Copejans.
