This BILD research theme focuses on empowering educators and educational change agents to cultivate student-centered learning practices as catalysts for educational transformation. The primary emphasis is on fostering self-regulated learning by investigating both the psychological nature of self-regulatory processes (cognitive, affective, behavioral, and motivational components) and learning-relevant strategies (e.g., goal setting, monitoring, help-seeking). This research interest is underpinned by the consensus that learners' self-regulatory abilities significantly enhance their learning outcomes. Our comprehensive research focus includes refining the learning process (how one learns), elevating its quality (what one learns) toward future solutions for effective learning.
Additionally, the research capitalizes on the opportunities presented by the emerging field of learning analytics, enabling educators to tailor instructional practices to the specific needs of both students and teachers. Furthermore, we leverage our SRL research to advance AI-driven learning technologies that strengthen educational support and integrate technology-enhanced innovations at various levels for both immediate and lifelong learning.
The research encompasses a diverse array of topics, including teachers' promotion of self-regulated learning, student engagement, citizenship education and open classroom climates, educational literacy and social inclusion/exclusion mechanisms, collaborative learning, technology-enhanced and mobile learning… The research is also embedded in the “BILDLab for Active, Collaborative and Hybrid Teaching and Learning”.
